LeBron James on Wednesday pushed back against the claim from Donald Trump that recent vulgar comments he made about women on a tape that resurfaced from 2005 was just “locker room talk.”
The NBA superstar, who recently endorsed Hillary Clinton, said Trump’s comments, caught on a hot mic while he was talking to disgraced media personality Billy Bush, bothered him.
“We don’t disrespect women in any shape or fashion in our [Cleveland Cavaliers] locker room,” James told reporters during practice.
The GOP presidential nominee has since apologized to anyone offended by the tape, but both he and his supporters have continued to claim that many men talk about women in such graphic terms in private.
That argument has received major pushback from the media and public, now including James.
“I’ve got a mother-in-law, a wife, a daughter, and those kinds of conversations just don’t go on in our locker room,” James said. “What goes on in our locker room: sporting events that happened the night before, family, strategy we have for that night, … but what that guy was saying, I don’t know what that is. That’s trash talk.”
