Lena Dunham is going from present-day Greenpoint to Medieval-era England.
The Girls creator and star announced at Friday’s New Yorker Festival that she is currently adapting 1994 children’s novel Catherine, Called Birdy for the big screen. Karen Cushman‘s novel won the Newbery Honor and Golden Kite award in 1995.
The Huffington Post previously reported the announcement.
Dunham, whose memoir Not That Kind of Girl was recently released, plans to produce the film through A Casual Romance, the production company she launched with Girls executive producer Jenni Konner. A Casual Romance recently announced that it is producing Three Suits, an HBO documentary about an LGBTI-friendly suit tailor.

Dunham said she has loved the book since childhood and is excited to work on something that focuses on women through a historical viewpoint.
She joked that it might be difficult for a PG-13 coming-of-age film set in 1290 to land funding.
