The book proposal the young actress circulated last week, which included a rundown of the essays and illustrations, sparked an intense bidding war, with publishers envisioning her book breaking out like Tina Fey’s Bossypants.
Fey’s book sold more than one million copies in 2011, after earning the star an advance of at least $5 million.
A release from Random House likened Dunham’s voice to Helen Gurley Brown, David Sedaris, and Nora Ephron, touting a book of “frank and funny advice on everything from sex to eating to traveling to work.”
Susan Kamil, the editor-in-chief and publisher of Random House, called her a “rare literary talent” with a voice that is “fresh, wise, so assured.
No publication date was announced.
Kimberly Witherspoon of Inwelll Management represented Dunham for the book deal. Publisher Gina Centrello represented Random House.
