Lena Dunham Sells Pieces From Her Wardrobe to Benefit Planned Parenthood

Lena Dunham has consistently expressed her support for Planned Parenthood, having co-directed an animated short film called 100 Years about the nonprofit organization’s history, designed a T-shirt benefiting the healthcare group and advocated for it on the red carpet. Now her latest move in assisting the org comes via her closet.

The Girls co-creator has put up 169 pieces from her wardrobe on The RealReal, an e-commerce consignment site that has sold clothes once belonging to Chrissy Teigen and the Kardashians/Jenners, and will donate all of her proceeds to Planned Parenthood. The sale went live Monday morning.

A majority of the items have already been sold, including a Vena Cava floral-print dress ($125), a red Calvin Klein structured straight-leg pantsuit ($295) and a Kenzo cloud-print silk dress ($175). However, there are still a few things up for grabs, such as a Zac Posen satin high-low gown ($995), a Simone Rocha embroidered tulle dress ($895) and the custom Elizabeth Kennedy gingham gown she wore to this year’s Met Gala ($4,000).

“I always thought I was going to hoard all my clothes for my future daughter, and now I understand, especially being a woman with a reproductive illness, I may end up with an adopted son, I may end up with a daughter who doesn’t identify with her gender at birth,” Dunham told The New York Times, referring to her battle with endometriosis. “You can’t live for the future that does not yet exist. I have to take all this good fashion fortune I’ve had and spread it.”

Dunham most recently wrapped on her HBO hit, Girls, which aired its last episode on April 16. 

Aware of being both liked and disliked by the Internet, Dunham expressed to NYT, “Probably some people will buy the clothes because they hate me and burn them. And I bless them, too. The money’s still going to Planned Parenthood.”
