Leonardo DiCaprio, who worked on several films with Harvey Weinstein as producer, is speaking out about the allegations of sexual assault levied against the studio mogul.
In a Twitter statement on Tuesday, the actor wrote: “There is no excuse for sexual harassment or sexual assault — no matter who you are and no matter what profession. I applaud the strength and courage of the women who came forward and made their voices heard.”
Earlier in the day, not even 48 hours after Weinstein’s termination from The Weinstein Co., The New Yorker published its full report detailing rape allegations against the mogul by three women. That story comes on the heels of last Thursday’s New York Times bombshell that outlined decades of sexual harassment claims leveled against Weinstein.
DiCaprio starred in the films The Aviator, Django Unchained and Gangs of New York, which were produced by Weinstein. The actor joins a growing list of male industry notables offering their support to the women who have come forward.
Ben Affleck, who also starred in numerous pictures under the Weinstein-founded Miramax label, including Shakespeare in Love and Good Will Hunting, said earlier on Tuesday that the reports “made [him] sick.”
In a statement, Affleck also said, “I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades.”
