PARIS – French director Leos Carax left his lovers on the bridge to head to the Pere Lachaise cemetery with star Eva Mendes to wrap production in Paris this week on his latest film Holy Motors.
The filmmaker behind famed 1991 film The Lovers on the Bridgewith Juliette Binoche is back with a new hot title starring Denis Lavant that also features Kylie Minogue and Gallic talents Michel Piccoli and Edith Scob. The €3.9 million ($5.2 million) Franco-German co-production from Pierre Grise Productions and Pandora just picked up €100,000 ($134,000) in funding from Berlin’s Medienboard.
Holy Motors follows 24 hours in the life of a man traveling between different lives including a murderer, a beggar, a CEO and a father.
Mendes was seen on the Paris set at the Pierre Lachaise cemetery this week with a thick red wig and long gold dress. While the production remains mum on the exact details of her role, producers confirm that it’s not a starring role for the actress who doesn’t have very much dialogue in the movie.
However, a producer at Pierre Grise did confirm that Mendes’ role may be short, but it’s also sweet and is part of “a very strong scene from the film.”
Holy Motors is set for a Spring 2012 release with the hope that the title will end up in this year’s Festival de Cannes lineup. Holy Motors kicked of filming in the French capital in August and will officially wrap production on Friday. Les Films du Losange will distribute the title in France, with Wild Bunch on board for international sales.
