Olympics superfan Leslie Jones has made it to Rio, and now she’s even made it on-air.
Jones, who has been in Brazil since Thursday live-tweeting the Games, appeared in a slightly more official capacity on NBC on Saturday night. The Ghostbusters and SNL star joined Ryan Seacrest for the network’s late-night Olympic coverage, discussing the day’s events as well as her own history with the Games.
Jones told Seacrest that she used to watch the Olympics with her dad, who used to let her stay up and watch “when they used to show it 24 hours a day.”
“It’s a time where all of us can forget about all the B.S. that’s going on and come together and compete as a country,” the actress-comedian added to cheers from the crowd.
After Michael Phelps’ 23rd Olympic gold medal and possible last Games, Jones said she was especially excited to see the men’s and women’s swim teams compete. “The USA swimming team made that pool their bitch!” she said. “All of them were straight warriors!”
Jones has been live-tweeting the Olympics since they began, and her at-home coverage earned her a ticket to Rio when she was invited to cover the Games for NBC. She was offered the gig after NBC producer Mike Shoemaker saw her online commentary and alerted Jim Bell, the executive producer of the Games.
Jones landed in Rio on Thursday and has attended and live-tweeted gymnastics, swimming, beach volleyball and track and field events with enthusiasm, even meeting some of her Olympic idols while there.
