Letitia Wright has booked her first non-Marvel studio film since breaking out in last year’s box office smash Black Panther.
The 25-year-old Brit, who raced to the top of many casting director’s most-wanted lists after her scene-sealing portrayal of Princess Shuri, has landed a central role in Fox’s adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic Death on the Nile, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Wright is set to star alongside Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer and Kenneth Branagh, who again will direct following 2018’s Murder on the Orient Express while also reprising his role as the mustachioed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. The film is scheduled to start filming at the end of September.
Wright will play Rosalie Otterbourne, a lead suspect in the story, which follows Poirot as he attempts to unravel the murder of a young heiress while on vacation in Egypt. Olivia Hussey played the character in the 1978 adaptation starring Peter Ustinov and Mia Farrow.
Aside from returning as Shuri in Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, Wright has so far been very selective about her film choices, telling THR in 2018 that despite her newfound stardom, she didn’t want to “take everything just because it may have a big name or a big budget.”
On the streaming side, Wright currently appears in Donald Glover’s Amazon short film Guava Island and co-starred in an episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror in 2017.
Upcoming projects of hers also include the English-language remake of French hit Le Brio and sci-fi romance Hold Back the Stars alongside John Boyega, a fellow alumnus from London’s groundbreaking Identity School of Acting.
Wright is repped by the Identity Agency Group and WME.
