New images of Lindsay Lohan and James Deen have surfaced from director Paul Schrader’s buzzed-about indie, The Canyons.
In one still from the film, Lohan appears sprawled on a bed wearing nothing but a button-up shirt. In another, she raises an eyebrow at dinner, seated next to a seemingly distracted Deen.
With a troubled starlet and a porn star in the leading roles, Schrader’s project with screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis has been subjected to intense scrutiny throughout production — something the filmmaker hopes will work in his favor.

“To be honest, it’s something we created. We stirred the pot, simply with the casting of Lindsay and James,” Schrader told IndieWire. “Lindsay brings with her, her drama and then Bret, he has a very promiscuous Twitter finger, and he can always [be] relied upon to upset somebody with some tweet.”
The Canyons, funded by Schrader, Ellis and producer Braxton Pope with a $160,000 boost from Kickstarter, opens in New York theaters, on VOD and iTunes Aug. 2, and in Los Angeles theaters on Aug. 9. The release will be followed by a proper premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this summer.
The film has been classified as an erotic noir thriller about “youth, glamour, sex and surveillance,” depicting a group of twentysomethings in contemporary Los Angeles and Hollywood in the “post-Empire” era.
