TORONTO – The Banff World Media Festival is to pay tribute to Lionsgate as its 2014 company of distinction.
Top executives, producers and talent from Lionsgate will be featured during the four-day Canadian Rockies festival in June as they participate in keynote addresses and master classes.
Lionsgate’s management team will also make the trek north, though there is as yet no word on whether CEO Jon Feltheimer and vice chairman Michael Burns will be included in the victory lap in Banff.
Lionsgate has had notable recent success with YA tentpole movie franchises like The Hunger Games and Divergent, and hit cable TV shows like Mad Men, Weeds and Orange Is The New Black.
The Vancouver-based studio’s TV business has encouraged growth by diversifying into series built around a 10+90 model, produced original content for digital platforms, and making occasional forays into broadcast network TV with series like Nashville.
“Lionsgate is one of the most important and innovative independent production and distribution companies in the industry and it’s our honor to celebrate them during the 35th anniversary event,” Barbara Williams, senior vp of content at Shaw Media, and the chair of the Banff Foundation Board of Directors, said Thursday in a statement.
The Banff tribute comes as Lionsgate shows an increased interest in collaborating with Canadian TV producers, including Thunderbird Films and its Sea to Sky Entertainment joint venture.
Banff last year gave its inaugural company of distinction honor to CBS.
The Banff World Media Festival is set to run from June 8 to 11, 2014.
