Lionsgate is adding a Nordic comedy featuring Keanu Reeves in his first TV recurring role to its global distribution slate.
The studio has picked up world sales rights to Swedish Dicks, a series about two unlicensed Swedish private investigators trying to make a living in Los Angeles that stars Peter Stormare and Swedish stand-up comedian Johan Glans.
The Hollywood-set comedy also has Reeves guest starring in the role of Tex alongside Stormare, with whom he co-starred in 2005’s Constantine.
Reeves previously voiced the role of Ted Logan on the 1990 animated TV series Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures.
Swedish Dicks is the first original series from the MTG’s Nordic region video streaming service Viaplay.
“Combining world-class talent Peter Stormare and Johan Glans together with Keanu Reeves as a special guest star, together with edgy, compelling writing creates the kind of noisy, quality programming that is a Lionsgate trademark,” Kevin Beggs, chairman of Lionsgate Television, which is shopping the comedy to U.S. broadcasters, said Wednesday in a statement.
Swedish Dicks is produced by Brain Academy, also part of the MTG entertainment group, in collaboration with L.A.-based Viking Brothers Entertainment.
Lionsgate’s distribution arm will start shopping Swedish Dicks to international buyers next month at MIPCOM.
