Terms of the latest multi-year agreement were not disclosed. But the mini-studio said it will offer Blu-ray and DVD titles at Redbox kiosks on the same day as their home entertainment release as part of the new deal.
“We remain committed to expanding the choices and enriching the quality and excitement of the home entertainment experience for our consumers, and our Redbox relationship is an important part of this commitment,” said Lionsgate president of home entertainment Ron Schwartz on Tuesday in a statement.
The first Lionsgate-Redbox deal was signed in 2009. Redbox president Mark Horak, a former Warner Bros. home entertainment president who boarded the DVD rental kiosk company earlier this year, welcomed the latest supply deal with a major Hollywood content producer.
“Redbox is the market-leading distribution platform for new-release content, and we’ve established an impressive network of about 35 million consumers who rely on Redbox for the latest new-release news on a weekly basis,” Horak said in his own statement.
Lionsgate’s library of 15,000 titles has produced a $1 billion-a-year business, with the mini-studio recently promoting Jim Packer and Schwartz to be co-heads of its worldwide home entertainment division.
Redbox has self-service kiosks in around 35,000 locations.
