Lionsgate on Thursday unveiled a first-look deal with Freaks and Geeks creator Paul Feig and his producing partner, Jessie Henderson, to co-produce scripted and unscripted series and formats for the Lionsgate Television Group.
Feig, who also directed Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters, will work through his Feigco Entertainment banner, it was announced by Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs. As it ramps up its unscripted TV slate, Lionsgate is already working with Feig on the unscripted Netflix half-hour comedy series The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale, which Feig executive produces alongside McHale, K.P. Anderson, and Henderson.
“Paul Feig is one of the most prolific and versatile talents in film and television today, and we’re thrilled to continue growing our multifaceted relationship with him across our scripted television business,” Lionsgate executive vp and head of worldwide scripted TV Chris Selak said in a statement.
Besides creating Freaks and Geeks, Feig directed and co-executive produced The Office. “I’m delighted to have this opportunity to continue expanding my collaboration with the Lionsgate Television Group,” said Feig in his own statement.
“I’ve worked with Kevin and his amazingly talented team since the days of Nurse Jackie, and Lionsgate has proven itself time and again to be a home for bold creative vision and ground-breaking original content,” he added.
On the film side, Lionsgate is set to release Feig’s thriller A Simple Favor, starring Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick and Henry Golding, on Sept. 14. Feig is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer.
The first-look deal was negotiated for Lionsgate by executive vp TV business affairs Dan Hadl. Lionsgate TV also has production pacts with Anderson, Kevin Hart, Jenji Kohan, Courtney Kemp, Matt Kunitz, Jeff Apploff, Joel Silver and John Goldwyn, among others.
