LONDON — Distribution banner Lionsgate U.K. has snapped up U.K. theatrical rights to a trio of titles including The Big Wedding, starring Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Amanda Seyfried and Diane Keaton.
The British distributor has also scared up a deal to bring The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D to the U.K. and emerged with thriller The Paperboy also.
Lionsgate said yes to rom-com The Big Wedding, directed by Justin Zackham. It centers around a dysfunctional, divorced couple who must pretend to still be married at their adopted son’s wedding in order to please the guest of honor: his religious birth mother.
Currently in production as a new chapter in the long-standing horror franchise, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D sees the return of Leatherface for more murder and mayhem. John Luessenhop (Takers) is directing the film being produced by Carl Mazzocone. The film is a collaboration between Lionsgate and production partner Nu Image.
Also rolling is The Paperboy, an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s novel of the same name being directed by Lee Daniels (Precious) and produced by Daniels and Hilary Shor (Children of Men). Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and Sofia Vergara star in this story of an idealistic reporter who returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the possibly unlawful imprisonment of a death row inmate.
