Emma Watson is in talks to star in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Watson is in negotiations for a role that Emma Stone was previously circling. Stone was no longer able to participate in the film due to scheduling conflicts.
The adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic has Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Saoirse Ronan, Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh in talks to star.
Little Women follows sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother in Civil War-era Massachusetts as they navigate growing up, first loves and Christmas without their father. Watson would be playing one of the sisters, but it is currently unclear which one.
Gerwig wrote the screenplay for the feature, which Columbia Pictures previously made into a 1994 feature with Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon and Kirsten Dunst.
Amy Pascal will produce alongside Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord. Andrea Giannetti will oversee the production for Columbia.
Watson, who was last seen in 2017 feature The Circle, is repped by CAA and Untitled.
