President Donald Trump is announcing his pick to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday night.
Trump will announce his choice during a primetime televised address from the White House. Set for 8 p.m. ET, the Big Four broadcast networks — ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox — all will break into their Tuesday night programming to air the first live, primetime news event from President Trump.
Trump is said to have made his selection from a group of three finalists and according to a CNN report, his top two picks, Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman, both traveled to the White House ahead of the announcement.
Hours before the announcement, Trump’s decision still was being kept uncharacteristically guarded. The secrecy lent to speculation that the president could have changed his mind at the last minute in a bid for the ratings-savvy former Apprentice host to build suspense around the event.
Trump also will be streaming the address via Facebook Live, a move announced by the White House earlier Tuesday with a tagline to tune in that rings truer to a promo for a reality show: “You won’t want to miss it!”
Trump also teased the announcement from his personal Twitter account Monday.
His choice fills the seat left vacant by Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016.
