“It was evident to anybody who watched Robert Osborne on Turner Classic Movies that his knowledge about Hollywood and film was second to none,” legendary actress Liza Minnelli told The Hollywood Reporter after learning that the beloved film historian and TV host had died on Monday at age 84.
“He was an indispensable guide to viewers who tuned in every day to hear his thoughts,” she continued. “Often, if I couldn’t remember the name of an actor or a particular film, I’d ring him up and he’d instantly know the answer.”
The 70-year-old Oscar winner, who knew Osborne for decades and was interviewed by him in 2010, said of him, “The people who watched him on television considered him a friend. But he was a true friend of mine and somebody I could always count on to be there for me when I needed him. I was devastated to hear that he passed away and my heart goes out to my friends at Turner Classic Movies, Robert’s friends around the world and his family. He will always be in my heart.”
