BERLIN – Louise Archambault‘s drama Gabrielle, winner of this year’s audience award in Locarno, will open the 2013 Hamburg Film Festival on Sept. 26, organizers said Wednesday.
The Quebecois feature stars Gabrielle Marion-Rivard as a woman with Williams Syndrome, a rare neurodevelopment disorder, who struggles to build a relationship with Martin (Alexandre Landry), the love of her life.
Hamburg will be the German premiere of the film, which will not bow theatrically here until next year.
Archambault, the two leads, as well as producers Kim McCraw and Luc Dery are expected to attend the Hamburg premiere.
The festival in the Northern German city will run through Oct. 5. Scottish actress Tilda Swinton is scheduled to be honored with the annual fest’s Douglas Sirk Award for outstanding contributions to film. The German premiere of Jim Jarmusch‘s Only Lovers Left Alive, starring the actress, will be screened at the award ceremony.
