Locarno to Host Otto Preminger Retrospective

The Swiss festival will screen all forty of Preminger's films and hold a roundtable discussion of the late director's work.

COLOGNE, Germany – The Locarno film festival (Aug. 1-11) is dedicating its retrospective this year to the work of Otto Preminger, the Austrian director who became an A-list and three-time Oscar-nominated Hollywood helmer.

Locarno will screen all 40 of Preminger’s films, with screenings accompanied by discussions given by actors, filmmakers and film critics attending the festival. Locarno will also host a roundtable discussion of Preminger’s work, chaired by Carlo Chatrian, who will curate the retrospective.

Preminger made his name in Hollywood with the film noir Laura (1944) – which garnered him his first Oscar nomination – and went on to make such classics as Anatomy of a Murder (1959), Exodus (1960), The Cardinal (1963) and Bunny Lake is Missing (1965). He died in New York in 1986.
