ROME — The Locarno Film Festival’s Carte Blanche showcase will remain in Latin America for the fourth time in its four-year history, organizers said Tuesday. The initiative will focus on Brazil for its 2014 edition.
Brazil comes up next for the well-regarded showcase at the 67-year-old Swiss festival, after a stint in Chile earlier this year, and Mexico and Colombia before that.

Each year, Carte Blanche selects between five and seven film projects, all in post-production, from a specific country. The films will participate in the festival, with producers meeting sales agents, buyers, festival programmers, and other industry figures in town for the festival’s Industry Days market event in order to help facilitate the post-production process and sales.
Additionally, a jury will select the best Carte Blanche film, which will be presented with a cash award of $10,100 (10,000 Swiss francs) to help offset post-production costs.
The entry process will open early next year and the participating films will be announced in July. The festival itself takes place Aug. 6-16, 2014.
