On Monday, Logic performed his new single, “One Day,” at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, taking a powerful pro-immigration stance in his performance. The track features vocals from OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder.
Nominated for best collaboration and best video with a message, Logic took to the stage in a T-shirt that read “F*ck the wall,” in protest of the Trump administration’s family separation and detention policy.
The rapper was joined onstage by dozens of children, youths and families, all in white T-shirts with the phrase “We are all human beings” written across the chest. All of the people brought onstage have been impacted by immigration issues, including immigrant leaders from the National Domestic Workers Alliance, United We Dream, Make the Road New York and their children.

Similar to the message of the song’s music video, the performance depicted children being separated from their families by means of a human-made wall. Near the end of the performance, the wall fell as the guests onstage reunited and embraced one another.

Logic also made a powerful statement at last year’s VMAs, where he performed “1-800-273-8255.” Wearing a black sweatshirt that read “Everybody,” the rapper took to the stage with Alessia Cara and Khalid while suicide survivors lined the stage in white T-shirts that read “1-800-273-8255” on the front and “You Are Not Alone” on the back.
Logic is one of many leading artists lending his voice to the protest of Trump’s border policies, following Lin-Manuel Miranda, John Legend, America Ferrera and more.
