The nominees for the 65th annual Los Angeles Area Emmys are out.
Bruce Rosenblum, chairman and CEO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, announced 136 nominations in 43 categories, as well as this year’s Governors Award recipient.
NBC4 leads with 18 nominations, followed by KMEX with 15, KTLA5 with 13, ABC7 and KCET with 12 each and CBS2 with nine.
The prestigious Governors Award will be presented to Univision for its education initiative, “Educate, Es El Momento” (Educate Yourself, The Moment is Now), a yearlong campaign to improve academics among K-12 Hispanic students. The network hosted a citywide education fair and aired more than 30 news stories about the importance of education. It also sponsored a phone bank during its newscast hours for viewers to call in and speak with education experts.

“Univision’s ‘Educate, Es El Momento’ has helped the City of Los Angeles and the LAUSD produce real change in local and continuing public education,” Rosenblum said in a statement. “With such a vast array of education centers and information provided by this program, children and adults of Los Angeles were able to seek out the help and material they need to succeed regardless of education level or economic status. Univision and this outstanding public outreach program are very deserving recipients of this year’s Governors Award.”
The Governors Award will be presented Aug. 3 at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood, where the other winners will be announced. For the complete list of nominees, visit the Emmys website.
