At San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Marvel Entertainment unveiled the next three titles in its Marvel Digital Originals line, a new imprint that focuses on the characters from the company’s television properties. Two of those titles were obvious candidates, but the third, slightly less so.
Following last Wednesday’s surprise release of Jessica Jones No. 1, Marvel announced new series for both Luke Cage and Iron Fist — the latter is officially titled Iron Fist: Phantom Limb — but the third series isn’t a direct spinoff of the remaining Netflix shows like The Defenders, Daredevil or The Punisher, nor is it based on another Marvel TV property, like Agents of SHIELD, Legion, The Gifted or Runaways. (Cloak and Dagger already has a digital series.)
Instead, the third series is Daughters of the Dragon, the long-standing comic book property that teams two supporting characters from separate Netflix shows: Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. The two were originally paired in 1977’s Deadly Hands of Kung Fu No. 32, and have continued to appear together over the subsequent decades, including a 2005 spotlight comic book miniseries. The two also co-starred in the follow-up Heroes for Hire series the following year.
All three series will run with 40 pages of material per issue for $4.99, with print collections released three digital issues at a time. According to release dates on the ComiXology platform, Luke Cage will launch in August, with Iron Fist: Phantom Limb following in October and Daughters of the Dragon in November.
