The Agency Group’s Peter Schwartz and James Rubin are moving to WME, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Collectively, they represent current hip hop stars including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, A$AP Ferg, Danny Brown and Yelawolf. Schwartz’s clients also include B-Real, Cypress Hill, JordanBratton, Method Man, Redman and Snow Tha Product, while Rubin’s include Run the Jewels, Partynextdoor, Action Bronson, Vic Mensa, Ilovemakonnen and G-Eazy.
Schwartz was vice president and head of urban music at The Agency Group, which he joined in 1993. The Syracuse graduate actually began his career with two years in the William Morris Agency’s agent trainee program.
“I am thrilled and look forward to be joining the incredible team at WME,” Schwartz said in a statement. “This is really full circle for me. I am confident this is going to be a great move for me and my clients, and am excited for what the future holds.”
Rubin led The Agency Group’s international division for urban touring in London but will, like Schwartz, be based out of New York City for WME, where he will continue to focus on the international market. Rubin’s start in music came as a hip hop promoter in 2001 and then launched Melting Pot Productions to help U.S. and U.K.-based artists tour across Asia and Australia. He joined The Agency Group in 2008.
“I’m extremely excited about joining WME and look forward to being a huge asset to the company,” Rubin said in a statement. “Their amazing roster and ability to grow the live touring business for artists is something I look forward to being a part of for many years to come.”
Added WME music partner Sara Newkirk in a statement: “Peter and James are known for their keen eye for talent and their ability to architect careers. They are dynamic additions to our group as we continue to build upon our world class team of agents and artists.”
The additions continue to bolster WME’s position in the music space. In February Pollstar named it Booking Agency of the Year, and last month it acquired Australian agency Artist Voice.
