Madonna and Michael Berg founded Raising Malawi in 2006. The non-profit charity aims to help extreme poverty and raise awareness of Malawi's one million orphans. She has hosted a number of fundraisers and even wrote and produced a documentary, I Am Because We Are, in its honor.

The AP reports the singer and her neighbor are no longer engaged in a two-year-lawsuit over the noise incurred by Madonna bringing her work home with her.

Karen George first filed suit against Madonna in 2009, claiming the singer was using her home as a rehearsal space. This included “blaring music, stomping and shaking walls” and subjected George to “unbearable” noise.
Madonna made efforts to dampen the sound in the immediate wake of the lawsuit, but George still was not appeased. Earlier in 2011, Madonna took up studio space in another location.

The singer then tried to get the case dismissed — she and the building’s board claimed the noise never topped legal levels — but the court ruled against her. As of Wednesday, records show the lawsuit had settled, but neither party has commented on the matter.
Madonna has had residence in the Upper West Side apartment, with views of Central Park, since the mid-1980s.
