LONDON — The Wagner/Cuban Co.’s Magnet Releasing has picked up North American distribution rights to Johannes Roberts‘ horror flick Storage 24 written by and starring Noel Clarke.
The deal was inked between Medient Studios and Clarke’s Unstoppable Entertainment and Magnet and brokered by the movie’s U.K. based sales agent Independent Film Company on the eve of this year’s American Film Market.
Clarke’s script details the story of a group of people hunted by an unknown predator in a storage facility in the wake of a military cargo plane crash.
Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, the theatrical and home entertainment distribution arm of the Wagner/Cuban Companies — a vertically-integrated group of media properties co-owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban that also includes the Landmark Theatres chain and the high definition cable network HDNet — plans to release the movie first through the distributer’s Ultra VOD program.
The movie will debut in the U.S. on all video on demand platforms on Dec. 6, followed by a theatrical release in early January.
Medient CEO Manu Kumaran said: “Storage 24 has been well received in Europe and Asia, and we are confident that fans of the genre will greatly enjoy our version of a monster movie.”
Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles described the movie as delivering “scares in spades,” adding it should prove to be a “real delight for monster movie fans.”
Clarke said: “The goal at the beginning of this journey when writing this movie was to produce a project that would make headway internationally and we’re pleased this film has done that. U.S. audiences are in for a treat.”
The film has sold to ICO in France, Klockworx in Japan, Lark Films in Hong Kong, Bir Film in Turkey, HGC in China, Focus & Company in Korea and IPA in Thailand and Vietnam.
It is being released by Universal in the U.K., Germany, Benelux, Scandinavia, Australia and India.
