They are producing the project, which stars Ithamar Enriquez (The League), in partnership with Principato-Young Entertainment, Enriquez and Frank Caeti.
“We’re really excited to be partnering with Maker on this,” Key and Peele said in a statement. “The show is going to have a very broad appeal and we need someone who can reach a really wide audience.”
The six-episode short-from series will follow Enriquez as he explores new environments — such as a hipster coffee shop or a Hollywood pitch meeting — without saying a word. Key and Peele will also guest star.
“We like to describe it as Mr. Bean meets Louie meets Walter Mitty,” said Corey Moss, svp of digital and production at Principato-Young.
Key and Peele have worked with Maker in the past, starring in two episodes of YouTube hit Epic Rap Battles of History and co-starring with Maker co-founder Lisa Donovan on MadTV.
The digital series is part of Maker’s foray into original content production led by Erin McPherson, who joined the Culver City media company in November as chief content officer. Maker has been building up content on its comedy YouTube channel Nacho Punch and announced in April that it had teamed with Nylon magazine to produce the scripted drama Oh, You Pretty Things! starring Francesca Eastwood.
“Key and Peele are two of the smartest comedians today, known for creating sharp, witty sketches that push boundaries,” McPherson said. “Enriquez is a natural talent, and the unique character he has created, Ithamar, will cross global boundaries.”
The company, which was recently acquired by Disney, is presenting at the Digital Content NewFronts on Tuesday, May 6.
