In the latest installment of Net-a-Porter’s The Edit, actress Mamie Gummer tackles everything from style to sexism in Hollywood to shooting her latest film, Ricki and the Flash, with Oscar winner (and her mother) Meryl Streep. “We had never really talked about [working] together, but we had also never ruled it out,” said Gummer, who plays Streep’s estranged daughter Julie in the film. “I wasn’t about to say, ‘No, I’m not going to work with Meryl Streep. I refuse!’ ”

Compared to other acting gigs, Ricki was a piece of cake for Gummer: “One audition I went for was for the role of Joan of Arc, and at the end of the character description, it said, ‘She has an undeniable sex appeal. Nudity required,’ ” she recalled. Fortunately, the 32-year-old has seen improvement in the quality of roles for women, especially in television. Gummer recently worked on The Make It Fair Project to help raise awareness for gender equality in the creative industries.
In the story, Gummer, who counts Acne Studios and Isabel Marant as favorite labels, models cozy-chic and effortless pieces by Rosetta Getty, Topshop Unique and The Elder Statesman — styled by Sofia Catania and photographed by Trent McGinn. Her own daily uniform? “Something that vaguely resembles pajamas, but in the chicest way. Maybe with a hat. I have way too many hats.”

Perhaps most surprisingly, when asked who her style icon is and whom she’d like to model her own career after, Gummer named Cate Blanchett: “Theater has remained a priority in her life. She’s been able to balance the two,” responded Gummer coolly.
