Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids has found a new home at Lifetime.
The former ABC network pilot, which was adapted from the Mexican telenovela, has been ordered to series with 13 episodes expected to launch in 2013. The project, which follows the lives of five maids with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, will count Susan Lucci and Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz among its stars.
Also cast in the ABC Studios project are Judy Reyes (The Pregnancy Project), Dania Ramirez (Entourage), Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace), Edy Ganem (Livin’ Loud) and Grant Show (Swing Town), among others.
“We are thrilled to be getting into business with one of entertainment’s true visionaries,” Lifetime chiefs Robert Sharenow and Nancy Dubuc said in a joint statement. “This show and Marc Cherry’s unique storytelling voice perfectly articulate Lifetime’s strategy of attracting top-tier creatives with their most original and exciting projects.”
Added Barry Jossen, executive vp creative and production at ABC Studios, “Marc Cherry is a visionary, and we are honored to share his newest inspiration, Devious Maids, with Lifetime.”
Maids will count the Desperate Housewives creator as an executive producer, along with Sabrina Wind (Desperate Housewives), Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), Paul McGuigan (Scandal), Larry Shuman (Kissing Miranda), David Lonner, John Mass, Paul Presburger and Michael Garcia. It will join such series as Army Wives and The Client List on Lifetime’s schedule.
