Twenty-one years after releasing “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Mariah Carey is starting a new Christmas tradition.
The singer will star in a holiday sketch series from Funny or Die on Verizon’s go90 video app. Mariah’s Holiday Sketchtacular will premiere Dec. 15 with new installments of the eight-episode series dropping daily.
The series, shot in New York, features Carey preparing for the holidays with the help of FOD regular Bryan Safi, who teams with her for a Christmas cooking show and helps her audition Santa Clauses for her concert series. Guest stars include Jordan Klepper (The Daily Show) and Nick Swardson (The Ridiculous 6).
“I loved collaborating with Funny or Die on this series of holiday-themed sketches,” says Carey. “These videos are fun, festive and full of holiday cheer, and I had an absolute blast making them.”
Verizon launched go90 in October as a home for free, ad-supported short-form video. Funny or Die has a channel on the app and will create several series for the platform.
“We at Funny or Die feel strongly that you haven’t celebrated the holidays until you’ve listened (preferably in one sitting) to Merry Christmas, Mariah Carey’s landmark album from 1994,” says Funny or Die president of production Mike Farah. “So when given the opportunity to re-team with Mariah, the indisputable Queen of Christmas, on a holiday-inspired sketch comedy series, we thought it was the perfect and hilarious addition to our go90 channel.”
