The tragic story of Norma Jean Baker — better known to the world as Marilyn Monroe — is one that many people are familiar with, but a new graphic novel by European creator Tommy Redolfi reimagines her life as a dark, beautiful fairy tale. Prepare to meet Marilyn’s Monsters.
The 248-page title, published in the U.S. by Humanoids as part of its Life Drawn imprint, has already received praise from all corners in its original French language publication, with David Cronenberg calling it “a brilliant, hallucinatory meditation on the phenomenon of Marilyn Monroe,” adding, “it will alter your understanding of both Hollywood and Marilyn.”
In the surreal world of Redolfi’s imagination, movie stars are born in the shadows of the Hollywood Hills, and their creation comes at a cost — as Norma Jean is slowly coming to realize in the exclusive preview below.
Marilyn’s Monsters is released Sept. 18.
