After a little more than a year as Banana Republic’s creative director and executive vp, Marissa Webb is leaving her post.
WWD first reported that Webb, whose far-reaching role at the Gap Inc. brand included not just design but marketing and store presentation as well, will stay on with the company as an adviser. The post of creative director will not be filled.
Webb was initially brought on with the company in April of 2014 to help reinvigorate the brand. Prior to Banana Republic, Webb worked at J.Crew for more than a decade and has been designing her own line since 2011. Gap Inc. will continue to have a minority stake in the designer’s eponymous line.

“With a very strong product team in place at Banana Republic, this is the right time to evolve her role,” Andi Owen, Banana Republic’s global brand president, told the trade. “We’ll continue to support Marissa and her success in the future.”
Though she will not have a day-to-day duties as an adviser, Webb and Banana Republic will continue to have a collaborative relationship, much the same way that other Gap Inc. brands operate.

Said Webb of her new role, “This opens the door for even more possibilities for my own collection and Banana Republic. So many great things are happening at Banana Republic and at my Marissa Webb label and I am proud be part of the growth and evolution of both brands.”
