Mark Shapiro has been promoted to president of Endeavor, the company announced Monday.
He previously has served as IMG’s chief content officer since 2014 and was named a co-president of WME-IMG (the former name of Endeavor) in 2016. Shapiro’s work at the company has included unifying its fashion businesses (including IMG Models, The Wall Group, Art + Commerce, LENS, IMG Focus and more than 20 events around the world); developing new formats for IMG’s events portfolio (including the upcoming Frieze LA); supporting the five-year, $1.5 billion U.S. rights deal for the UFC with ESPN; and enhancing Endeavor Global Marketing with acquisitions in public relations, experiential and advertising.
“The past four years have marked Endeavor’s most pivotal stage of growth, and Mark has played a critical role in getting us to where we are today,” Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel said in a statement. “Mark’s leadership, creativity and drive will help [executive chairman] Patrick [Whitesell] and me as we continue to scale Endeavor and realize its full potential.”
Prior to joining IMG, Shapiro served as CEO of Dick Clark Productions and director, president and CEO of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. He began his career at ESPN, where he oversaw both production and programming while leading the creation of sports and entertainment properties at the Worldwide Leader. Shapiro serves on the boards of four public companies: Live Nation, Frontier Communications, Papa John’s and Equity Residential.
