Martin Scorsese will receive the Lumiere Award at this year’s Lumiere Film Festival in Lyon, France, organizers said on Thursday.
The honorary award is given out each year to a major director and was created back in 2009 by Cannes festival director Thierry Fremaux and Bertrand Tavernier. The award is given during the Lumiere Festival, which this year runs Oct. 12-18.
Past recipients include Pedro Almodovar, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, Milos Forman, Gerard Depardieu and Ken Loach.
Scorsese will get the award on Oct. 16. Organizers said it would be his first visit to Lyon.
