LONDON – Martin Scorsese’s live action adventure Hugo has been chosen to be this year’s Royal Film Performance later this month.
Scorsese’s film will unspool before a select audience including the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwell at the event scheduled for Nov. 28 at the Odeon Leicester Square, London.
Distributed by Entertainment Films in the U.K., the movie will rollout in digital 3D from December 2 across the U.K. and Ireland.
Directed by Scorsese, Hugo stars Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield and Chloë Moretz.
Other cast members include Jude Law, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Helen McCrory, Frances de la Tour and Richard Griffiths.
Hugo marks Scorsese’s first venture shot in 3D and tells the tale of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station.
When Hugo encounters a broken machine, an eccentric girl, and the cold, reserved man who runs the toy shop, he is caught up in a magical, mysterious adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy.
Based on Brian Selznick’s New York Times bestseller The Invention of Hugo Cabret, the screenplay is penned by John Logan.
The movie is produced by Scorsese, Graham King, Tim Headington and Johnny Depp.
The Royal Film Performance is the principal fundraising event of The Cinema & Television Benevolent Fund (‘CTBF’).
All money raised from the event will go directly to the charity, which supports film and television industry employees and their families in times of hardship.
