Initially teased at San Diego Comic-Con last month, Marvel Entertainment has released information about its upcoming revival of the Marvel Knights brand, to celebrate the imprint’s 20th anniversary.
Launching in November will be a six issue series called, simply, Marvel Knights, written by Matthew Rosenberg, Tini Howard, Vita Ayala and “showrunner” Donny Cates, with art by a line-up including Travel Foreman and Niko Henrichon. According to the publisher, the series will feature Daredevil, the Punisher, Black Panther and other characters — all of whom had series under the initial Marvel Knights imprint — investigating a mystery that “affects every hero and villain in the Marvel Universe.”
Covers for the series will come from Cosmic Ghost Rider artist Geoff Shaw, with Jae Lee providing variant covers for the run.
The original Marvel Knights was an imprint that ran from 1998 through 2006, edited by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti, that moved away from the heavy continuity of the core Marvel superhero comic book line, and instead focused on creative expression and standalone projects. The line was so successful that Quesada was promoted to Marvel editor-in-chief in 2000. In later years, the imprint was repositioned as a home for more mainstream mini-series, and eventually shuttered entirely in 2013.
In addition to the new series, Marvel is promising “a massive Marvel Knights celebration” that will include the previously-announced program (releasing new collections of the original Marvel Knights material), two over-sized omnibus collections, a variant cover program including work by John Cassaday, J.G. Jones and Terry Dodson, and a digital comics promotion.
More information about what is being referred to as MK20 will be released shortly, according to Marvel.
