For their fall 2015 presentation, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen chose a chic Park Avenue venue. The 35th-floor space featured unfinished concrete floors, soft natural lighting and sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline (more than a few attendees took advantage of the view and snapped photos before the show) — best of all, everyone had a front row seat at the intimate gathering.
The design duo was on hand to personally welcome guests as they entered — power stylists Kate Young and Rachel Zoe, celebrity hair stylist Mark Townsend (he has worked with the Olsens for more than a decade) and their younger sister, actress Elizabeth Olsen (Marvel’s Avengers Age of Ultron) were all in attendance.
The collection, inspired by the Far East, featured minimalist silk tops, long coats and dresses with kimono belt accents, plus a few cozy cocoon knits. The Row’s signature neutral palette — cream, navy, camel and black — remained with nary a pop of color (except for a sky-blue pair of slippers). A standout piece was the cognac alligator kimono wrap top, which could rival The Row’s infamous $34,000 alligator backpack. Models walked effortlessly down the runway — even smiling — thanks to the chicest house slippers ever.
Bottom line: not red carpet, but pretty much everything you’d want for everyday wear. No heels. Cozy oversize knits. No- nonsense colors. The most luxurious materials. The Row, launched in 2006, combines New York polish with a decidedly effortless Los Angeles ease and wearability. “Perfection!” exclaimed Townsend. We agree.
