IFC has picked up the U.S. rights to Diane, director Kent Jones’ first narrative feature that stars Mary Kay Place and debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Place plays a selfless widow burdened by guilt, with Jake Lacy in the role of her drug-addicted son. The ensemble cast also includes Andrea Martin, Estelle Parsons, Deirdre O’Connell, Joyce Van Patten, Phyllis Sommerville, Glynnis O’Connor and Paul McIsaac.
IFC plans to release the film in theaters in early 2019. Before that, Diane will screen at Locarno as the Tribeca title continues on the festival circuit. “[Diane] is a moving portrait and character study of a woman that transcends expectation. Mary Kay Place’s performance is a revelation,” Jonathan Sehring and Lisa Schwartz, co-presidents of IFC Films/Sundance Selects, said in a statement.
Diane is a Sight Unseen and AgX production, with producer credits shared by Luca Borghese, Ben Howe, Caroline Kaplan and Oren Moverman. It is executive produced by Scorsese along with Julia Lebedev, Eddie Vaisman and Leonid Lebedev.
The U.S. rights deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, executive vp film acquisitions and productions at IFC, and ICM Partners.
