Cinema City International, the third largest multiplex theater operator in Europe, has chosen MasterImage 3D as a 3D cinema system supplier. The technology will be purchased using MasterImage’s ownership-based pricing model.
The first wave of installations per the non-exclusive agreement is for 60 systems. The total number was not revealed.
In total, CCI Group has 866 screens in 90 multiplexes operating in seven territories — Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Israel. The group is continuing its expansion with 35 more multiplexes currently under development, which will add 360 new screens. The entire CCI circuit is expected to be fully digital by 2013, with up to 60% of its screens supporting 3D.
“MasterImage 3D offers a high quality, low maintenance system,” said Moshe (Mooky) Greidinger, CEO of the CCI Group. “Their single-use glasses eliminate the practice of having to wash and manage 3D glasses, which makes life easier for us, the cinema operators. We have tested thoroughly MasterImage systems and were very much convinced by its top quality.”
MasterImage 3D — which develops technology for theaters, mobile devices and gaming — has more than 3,000 digital 3D cinema systems installed in 57 countries.
Last week, the company announced that it had received a $15 million investment from Samsung Ventures.
MasterImage’s developments include its cell-matrix parallax barrier, glasses-free 3D technology that was already used for the Hitashi Wooo, one of the earliest glasses-free 3D mobile phones.
