Like his buddy Ben Affleck, Matt Damon is looking to move behind the camera with a Chris Terrio script.
Damon is in talks to make his directorial debut and to star in the international conspiracy thriller A Foreigner for Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch‘s Film Rites.
STORY: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck to Co-Host Cory Booker Fundraiser
Oscar winner Terrio, who wrote Affleck’s Argo, is adapting the screenplay from The New Yorker article “A Murder Foretold” written by David Grann. The article chronicles the true story of a man gunned down in Guatemala who leaves behind a videotape after his death implicating the country’s president and first lady.
Zaillian and Basch are producing with Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales, who is also financing.
Indian Paintbrush has a first-look distribution deal with Paramount, but the project is not set up at the studio at this point.
Like Terrio, Grann’s work has become a hot commodity in Hollywood. Rat Entertainment’s Brett Ratner and John Cheng are developing the Grann New Yorker article “True Crimes” with Christoph Waltz attached to star.
Damon is coming off of Sony’s sci-fi tentpole Elysium and a critically acclaimed turn in HBO’s Behind the Candelabra.
He is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
