Matt Lieberman has been signed by Dimension Films to write Short Circuit, a remake of the 1986 movie about a runaway robot.
Tim Hill, who helmed Hop and Alvin and the Chipmunks, is attached to direct the feature, which is aiming for a summer 2013 release that will be aimed at the family audiene.
David Foster, who produced the original, is producing with Ryan E. Heppe, John Hyde and Brian Manis.
“Dimension has had great success with the Spy Kids family series which grossed over $500 million worldwide,” Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co., who oversees the Dimension label, said. “We are looking for Short Circuit to be our next family franchise.”
The deal was negotiated for Dimension by Adrian Lopez, vp of business and legal. and Matthew Signer, svp of production and creative affairs, and for the filmmakers by Brad Rosenfeld at Preferred Artists and Melissa Rogal at Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman. Lieberman is repped by by Rosenfeld, Rogal and Adam Kolbrenner at Madhouse.?
