The actress was up against Sara Bareilles (Jesus Christ Superstar), Penelope Cruz (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story), Judith Light (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story), Adina Porter (American Horror Story: Cult) and Letitia Wright (“Black Museum,” Black Mirror) in the category. Wever previously won an Emmy in 2013 in the outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series category for her role on Nurse Jackie.
“I really appreciate this and I really hope that you don’t mistake my fear for my lack of gratitude,” she said. After stumbling during the beginning of her speech, she said, “I came prepared and it’s bombing already. I wanted to be a grownup about this.
“I wanted to say congratulations to the other nominees. It’s very much an honor to be counted among you tonight,” she said. “It’s a really lovely thing.”
Wever continued, “There’s a lot of people I want to thank, but I think I’m gonna try to do it in private.
“I just want to say that I’m still shocked that you’ve made a space for me and that you made a space for Mary Agnes,” she said about her character. “I love her and I still miss her, and I hope she’s well and I wish I could tell her about tonight, and thank you from the both of us.”
The 2018 Emmy Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Saturday Night Live‘s Colin Jost and Michael Che hosted the ceremony.
