NewscomAfter Friday evening’s tragic attacks on Paris, Thomas Campbell, director and CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has decided to cancel Wednesday’s upcoming dinner honoring the style of Jacqueline de Ribes, WWD reports.
Christian Dior’s CEO Sidney Toledano agreed with Campbell’s decision to cancel the black-tie event, which will be replaced by a private viewing of the exhibit between 7 and 9 p.m., followed by a small cocktail hour with a business casual dress code.

De Ribes, who was supposed to attend the dinner, has also canceled her trip to New York entirely. In a statement released by the museum on Monday, the Met apologized for the 86-year-old style veteran’s absence. “Comtesse de Ribes also knows how much Americans share the deep sadness felt in France, which confirms the enduring bond between the two countries,” reads the release. “She hopes the exhibition will represent the joy associated with the freedom of creation.”
The Costume Institute’s exhibit, which runs from Nov. 19 to Feb 21, features some of the haute couture and ready-to-wear pieces from de Ribes‘ personal collection that helped land her on international best-dressed lists for more than four decades.
