Metalheads, rejoice. L.A.-based Citizens of Humanity and German e-commerce site mytheresa.com have teamed up on a denim collaboration heavily influenced by the style of Metallica, set to launch Wednesday at citizensofhumanity.com and mytheresa.com.
Inspired by the heavy-metal scene of the eighties and early nineties, not to mention Metallica’s signature look of a denim jacket paired with distressed jeans, Citizens of Humanity founder Jerome Dahan and Women’s creative director Catherine Ryu worked with the Neiman Marcus Group-owned online retailer to conceive a six-piece collection that captures the fashion synonymous with the genre.
“Metallica’s style throughout the years has been the epitome of heavy metal fashion, as they are one of the bands that has made this music subculture so influential in the fashion world,” explains Dahan. “The band has maintained an element of authenticity with their music and their fashion that I feel immensely contributes to their success over the past few decades. They will forever be known for their rebellious and edgy look and aesthetic wearing oversized denim jackets, ripped up jeans, and leather outerwear.”
Priced from $408 to $536, pieces range from a sleeveless black denim Trucker Vest to the oversized denim Classic Jacket in a light blue wash, and three concert-ready jean styles — all manufactured at the denim brand’s facility in downtown Los Angeles.

To embody the ethos of the collection, the team turned to drummer Lars Ulrich’s wife, model Jessica Miller, who was captured wearing the collection in a series of black-and-white images shot by her musician husband.
“After viewing the collection, Lars wanted to get involved with the collaboration and suggested shooting Jessica Miller wearing the collection,” says Dahan. “Lars perfectly captured the anti-fashion style and attitude of the rock icons that inspired the collection.”
The pieces also appear in a short heavy metal-inspired brand video by director Danny Sagra (who has also worked with the likes of Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mulberry and Louis Vuitton), which makes its online debut timed to the collection.
The collaboration comes on the heels of another recent release influenced by Metallica’s trademark style; earlier this year, critics noted the similarity between the design of the new Yeezus logo for the Kanye West-helmed brand, and that of the heavy-metal band.
