Michael Cerveris was awarded best lead actor in a musical for his performance in Fun Home at the Tony Awards on Sunday night.
“Wow, you’ve made a lot of people in New Orleans really happy right now,” Cerveris said. “You guys do things I could not possibly do,” he commended his fellow nominees.
Cerveris‘ nab for Fun Home is his second Tony win; he scored his first Tony in 2004 for his performance in Assassins.
The actor beat out Robert Fairchild (An American in Paris), Brian d’Arcy James (Something Rotten!), Ken Watanabe (The King and I) and Tony Yazbeck (On the Town) to win the title.
Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth co-hosted the 69th annual awards show, which aired live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
