First Lady Michelle Obama continued her penchant for wearing emerging designers — and even re-wearing them — at the final presidential debate held on Monday in Boca Raton, Fla.
The grey and black lace gown by Thom Browne she wore last night had also been worn on the the second night of the Democratic National Convention. He was so excited that he tweeted out his delight: “Honored to see First Lady Michelle Obama wearing our Spring 2013 dress at the final presidential debate.”

We have to say that a woman without the first lady’s admirable physique and strong shoulders would not have been flattered by the neckline — but she certainly was.
On the other hand, Ann Romney’s Oscar de la Renta ensemble was an emerald green short-sleeved top accessorized by a large necklace. But the ombre print full skirt made her look like one of the Ladies Who Lunch, not an aspiring first lady attending one of the most important events in her husband’s political career (and perhaps in the nation’s history).

And the thin belt? Not helping her case.
Both women have been under a lot of pressure to look good during the 2012 presidential campaign and both have risen to the occasions. Even when they wore the same color — shocking pink — for Breast Cancer Awareness at the second presidential debate, they still present their individual personalities and sensibilities.

While from a modern fashion trends perspective Mrs. Romney’s attire may look very outdated, but it probably does telegraph who she is — a devoted wife and mother.
