First Lady Michelle Obama has made her official foray into Twitter.
After occasionally contributing to her joint account with Jill Biden for their Joining Forces initiative, she’s boosting her online presence in anticipation of the coming election.
The official Barack Obama campaign feed alerted its 11.8 million followers of the development on Thursday morning.
“It’s not every day we get to welcome the First Lady of the United States to Twitter,” reads the post, “Happy to have you, @MichelleObama!”
The First Lady’s account, much like her husband’s, notes that all tweets coming directly from its namesake will be co-signed with her initials, with campaign staff doing the most of the legwork.
“Hi, everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome,” she wrote in her first post. “Look forward to staying in touch with you here.”
She’s since posted a link to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, and in just 8 hours, has surpassed 150,000 followers.
Politicos such as Maria Shriver, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill and blogger Michelle Malkin all extended their welcome to Mrs. Obama.
