Glamour MagazineFor its May issue, Glamour magazine features not just one, but three of America’s most influential ladies on its cover. First lady Michelle Obama is joined by Sarah Jessica Parker and Kerry Washington with the very appropriate headline “Power Women!”
Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier in the Blue Room at the White House (looking gorgeous as usual, with both FLOTUS and Washington in Narciso Rodriguez and SJP in white Oscar de la Renta), the women sat down with Glamour EIC Cindi Leive for an interview. Though they originally met through their positions on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, this time around, the ladies have one specific mission in mind: Supporting our veterans.

Of Obama’s many causes, which include her Let’s Move healthy living campaign to fight childhood obesity and initiatives to further girls’ education, she also heads Joining Forces, which she co-founded in 2011 with second lady Dr. Jill Biden to provide support for service members, veterans and their families. Both Washington and Parker also have strong connections to our armed forces, with Washington’s father being a veteran and Parker with several friends in the service.
Joining Forces, which seeks to provide support through both public and private sectors, provides employment resources, educational programs and health and wellness access. As Memorial Day approaches, the women hope to spread awareness of these issues and the stigma surrounding the need for assistance that service members often face. With their fabulous cover and inspiring interview, we’d say, mission accomplished.
