British designer Todd Lynn, renowned in Europe for his rock-flavored urban warrior clothing line, has quite the wild rock and roll past. Even before he launched his line in 2006, he was designing for U2’s Bono and Adam Clayton; Rolling Stones Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood; as well as Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love, P.J. Harvey. Lately he’s also outfitted Beyonce, Rihanna and Janet Jackson.
Considering his rock and roll edge, it’s intriguing that Michelle Williams — known for her demure ladylike dressing — has picked out a dress from Lynn’s Spring Summer 2012 collection to wear on an upcoming carpet to promote her new film, My Week with Marilyn. It’s also intriguing also her costar, British actor Eddie Redmayne, just happens to be chums with the designer.
“She hasn’t worn it yet, but she will,” Lynn told Fash Track at the London Show Rooms, the British Fashion Council’s concept to introduce Brit designers to Los Angeles stylists and retail buyers, held on Monday, Oct 17 at the Ace Gallery.
Lynn hasn’t seen Marilyn yet but he’s heard the “incredible buzz.” Of Redmayne, he says “He’s one of my best friends. He’s such a sweet guy. He’s back in London rehearsing for Shakespeare’s Richard II. (Donmar Warehouse, opening Dec 6, 2011, closing Feb. 4, 2012). I like that Eddie is doing a film, then doing a play.” Any action films upcoming for Redmayne? “No, he’s not that type,” says Lynn. “He’ll never do that. But Marilyn is a big one for him.”
Highlights of Lynn’s Spring Summer collection are the sliced jackets and trousers held together with silver bone safety pins designed by jewelry designer Shaun Leane, who did all of Alexander McQueen‘s spectacular jewelry, and neckpieces on his runways.
Check out Lynn’s Spring 2012 collection here and see if you can decide which one of his dresses Michelle will wear. Locally, you can find Lynn’s designs at Satine, 8134 West Third Street, Los Angeles.
