Michelle Williams is attached to star in the movie The Challenger, playing late teacher-turned-astronaut Christa McAuliffe.
On the morning of Jan. 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger took off from Cape Canaveral and exploded shortly thereafter, killing all seven crewmembers, including McAuliffe, a high school teacher from New Hampshire who was selected to join NASA’s Teacher in Space Project.
After the tragedy, McAuliffe was honored posthumously with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
Martin Zandvliet (Land of Mine) will direct the biopic of sorts, which was penned by Jayson Rothwell. John and Art Linson are producing, along with Argent Pictures’ Ben Renzo.
Jill Ahrens, Ryan Ahrens, Drew Brees, Tony Parker, Michael Finley and Derrick Brooks are executive producing for Argent.
The Challenger is eyeing a spring 2019 production start.
Williams will be seen in theaters this weekend in Sony’s Venom and recently wrapped production on the drama After the Wedding. She is repped by WME, Brillstein and Bloom Hergott.
